Comparison between Madake and Tonkin bamboo

From left side: Madake, Hachiku and Tonkin bamboo

Fibers

Madake's fibers are finer than Tonkin bamboo's and they are concentrated toward the outer part. I believe this is what makes Madake well-suited for delicate, fine rods.

Weight & Hardness

Madake bamboo is lighter and softer than Tonkin bamboo. Despite being of the same taper, it is more durable and powerful enough for fishing rods.

Action

Madake is suitable for fine-action rods - especially the tip section; the rhythm of amplitude is faster than that of Tonkin bamboo. It will feel lighter than its actual weight when you cast it.
