10/16/19 Fishing Report

Well here I am, back in action with the fishing report. I know, I know… it’s only been what? Like SEVEN MONTHS since my last one! You may be asking yourself “how could he not stay up to date?”, “has he forgotten about his website?”, “does he even catch fish”? Well the honest truth is this: I’ve been busy. It’s plain and simple and it turned into “I’ll do it tomorrow” and then BAM its October already. So here we are… enjoying this awkward moment together…. yup.

All joking aside, it was a great summer. We had some superb redfish and flounder action on both tide swings. The floods this year were pretty good if I must say, there were a lot of anglers who caught their first redfish on fly on the flood tides and the stoke was pretty real I must say. Even with the closure of the flounder fishery here in the state of NC, we have been catching some nice flat fish. I’ll leave my opinion out of the post, but yes.. the flounder fishery is closed except for the allotted seasons split between recreational anglers and commercial fisherman. Feel free to google that and stuff.

Enough of what has happened already and to what is happening right meow, in this very second, maybe even 30 seconds into the future which would be right…… NOW. Good, now that we’re all time travelers, lets dive into this. The yellow butterflies are everywhere and the winds have started shifting from the NORTH which means two things: temperatures cool down and ALBIES ALBIES ALBIES ALBIES ABLIES. If I didn’t say it already, ALBIES. These little buggers are what’s on every fly anglers mind right now. They’ve been absolutely on fire some days and you couldn’t buy a bite other days. But it’s ramping up so don’t fret! Consistent north winds that will push bait out will definitely stir the pot off the beaches and get the fish in a feeding frenzy. From now until mid November-ish we’ll be targeting these little tunnies with clousers and other baitfish flies or anything they’ll eat really, I don’t discriminate.

Next weekend we have the Cape Lookout Albacore and Redfish Tournament up in Atlantic Beach, there will be a bunch of awesome veterans from the national and local Project Healing Waters chapters who are all looking to chase these knuckle busting fish on the fly. It’s a fun tournament full of great times so if you’re interested, make sure and check out the link below!

I’ll try and do my best (wink wink) at keeping this up to date a bit more. Just bare with me, between trips, hunting season and just plain days where you need a nap, the days get away from me. I hope everyone has been having some epic times on the water! Feel free to give me a call or shoot an email if you have any questions about what’s biting or happening in the area.

As always… TIGHT LINES.
