07/22/21 Fishing Report

We’re back again with another episode of the fishing report brought to you by yours truly. So how’s the fishing been you may be asking yourself? Some days are incredible and some days are ok. We are finding good fish on both tide cycles with the high tides being more productive as of late. It’s great to get on those low tide, belly crawling fish. However, those skinnywater fish are SUPER spooky and very skittish.

For my fly anglers out there throwing feathers at some fish, fly choice has been dependent on water clarity. For those chocolate milk water days, most luck has come on either a dark colored fly or a copper color with a bit of flash. You want that fly to have a silhouette in the water so those fish can see the profile. On the cleaner water moments, it’s been more of presentation than color to be honest. Read the situation and determine how the fish are behaving for your best chance. Adjust your strip faster or slower based on if that fish is actively chasing bait or just cruising and searching. For our floods tides we’ve been having, a crab pattern has been doing work. Don’t be afraid to throw on some topwater action to get a bite. A gurgler or disco shrimp has been producing some solid bites.

Now for those of you who spin to win with the conventional gear, a gold spoon has been fantastic. That nice flutter action on the drop and been getting fish to move in for the kill and eat like a champ. Soft plastics are also working well, more so in the early morning while the fish are active and on the move. Newpenny color with a chartreuse tail has been great or the ole standard Gulp shrimp works wonders.

As a fun bonus, albies have been moving in off the beach, so gears will start shifting here soon to ramp up for the little tunnies. False Albacore dates are booking up for this fall, so if you’re interested in getting on some fish, don’t hesitate to reach out.
