11/10/21 Fishing Report

Two words… FALSE ALBACORE. That has been the absolute name of the game this fall for me. Some days have been absolutely unbelievable, and then other days it’s blowing 60mph with 7’ swells…. oh wait, that’s been half of the season. But hey, that’s albie fishing right?

The days where the weather has cooperated have been just fantastic. Depending on the winds and the tide, we’ve found fish right outside of the inlet and other days have been 110 mile runs to make it count. We started off albie season with your typical “popcorn” style fish, quick up and down and you’re running all over the place to keep up with them. Ever since we’ve had a more steady North wind, the fish have been behaving more cooperatively and we have had more chances to capitalize on the blitz.

My spin anglers have been crushing it with, well….. everything. Small metal casting jigs work, Albie snacks work, hard candies work, heck even a paddle tail has produced plenty of fish this season. The key is to get your cast into the fish quickly and then just reel like your life depends on it. Once that fish eats, you gain line whenever you can. These fish love to take you for a ride so just sit back, relax and enjoy the catch.

My fly guys (and gals) have had great success on surf candy style flies in all white or a tutti-frutti color scheme. Once again, get the fly into the meat quickly and then STRIP, STRIP, STRIP….. BAM! I like to tell my anglers to “drive the bus”, what I mean by that is simply separate your hands by a good distance and clear the line with your non-casting hand. This way, no line jumps up and wraps around the reel seat and breaks the fish off causing great disappointment and headache.

With the way things have been going, we still have a good bit of albie season left, so if you enjoy holding onto a Ferrari that gets upwards of 20 pounds, give me a shout and come enjoy some of the chaos!

You know the drill, call me or side into those DM’s
